The Ashbourne Community School 5K Fun Run, now in its third year, took place on Thursday 24 September 2015.
Normally held later in the school year, they decided to bring the event forward as part of the school’s 20th anniversary celebrations.
This year, the fun run raised a staggering €5,000 with the monies going towards funding school extra-curricular activities and the fit-out of the new school sports hall.
Once again, over 700 students, teachers, parents and members of the community put their fitness to the test by completing the 5K course. The route remained the same as previous years, starting at the school entrance and through Deerpark, down the Dublin Road, along Bourne Avenue and up Cluain Ri. They then proceeded across Fredrick Street, along Hunters Lane and Milltown Road towards the finish line on the school sports field.
The DBASS participants fared well. Nathan Oratis was first to cross the line, followed by Andrew Farrelly and Keith Finney. But the real credit should go to the outstanding performance and enthusiasm of the students, notably year 6 student Ciaran Carowter who won for the third year running in just over 15 minutes.
Aine O'Sullivan, Ashbourne Community School Principal said, “This year’s fun run is a key part of our 20th anniversary celebrations and is essential to developing and maintaining the link between our school and the community. We would like to thank DBASS for their continued sponsorship.”
We are proud to sponsor this local community event for the third consecutive year. We would like to thank Aine O’Sullivan (Principal), Finian O’Connor (Head of TY), Madeline Harbison, and everyone else involved in the organisation of another successful event. Our biggest thanks go to the students who made it such a fun and fabulous day.
