Dion Doyle- Trainee Story

Dion began his journey with DBASS to become a Chartered Accountant in September2023.

Starting as a trainee accountant was both exciting and nerve-wracking. Fresh out of university, equipped with theoretical knowledge but lacking hands-on experience, I entered my new role with a mix of eagerness and uncertainty. This was my first step into the professional world of accounting.

My first days as a trainee were all about observation. I worked closely with the other trainees who played an instrumental role in my training and development. It was a steep learning curve initially as I balanced learning how different accounting systems worked, how to approach the work and manage my time effectively.

As I grew more comfortable with the tasks that were given to me, I began to take on more responsibilities. The first time I was asked to prepare a set of financial statements on my own I was quite anxious, however with the guidance of my manager, I completed it successfully and there was a great sense of accomplishment in seeing the finished document.

Working in the audit department has taught me the importance of attention to detail and the intensity of the workload and the tight deadlines have helped me to manage my time more efficiently.

The necessity to collaborate closely with my team and the wider team at DBASS has highlighted to me the importance of good communication and sharing of knowledge.  I believe these are highly useful skills which I will use throughout my career.

So far my time at DBASS has been immensely rewarding, bringing some challenges, but also some great opportunities to learn and grow. As I continue with my training, I am grateful for the opportunities afforded me at DBASS and am excited about what my future holds.
