Lauren Cox- Trainee Story
Lauren began her journey with DBASS to become a Chartered Accountant in January 2022.
I began my career in accounting in 2018 after being accepted onto the accounting technician programme from which I graduated with a merit and from there decided to further my qualification through the ACCA programme.
Following my third year of ACCA training I decided to make the move to DBASS. I first heard about DBASS through word of mouth as I live locally and so reached out to Jacky in HR and the interview process began.
Considering my application was made during Covid the entire application process was very smooth. The interview process consisted of a telephone interview, an in person interview with HR and a partner at DBASS and then a third and final interview with a partner and your potential manager.
Following this an offer was made and accepted and my journey with DBASS began.
From the very first day I was encouraged to ask questions and to look for help if I needed it.
This made me feel comfortable and also showed that DBASS are aware we are trainees and are going to make some mistakes which we will learn from along the way. This took a little bit of the pressure off for me immediately.
Multiple avenues of systems training are provided at DBASS, from CCH to Sage 50 and at this point in my training I feel fortunate that my manager remains open to all of my questions. I have learned so much in my first 8 months at DBASS and can safely say that the level of knowledge I have now is not comparable to what I started with.
Currently I am part of an Accounts and Audit team working directly with both a manager and senior. To date I have gained exposure of both Audit and Non audit accounts all of which has increased my knowledge and giving me a better understanding of the expectations in these areas.
DBASS is an open environment which promotes on the Job learning, ensuring that you truly understand the importance of every task you undertake.
I am very grateful for the opportunity given to me and I am looking forward to my future career at DBASS Chartered accountants.
